Direlands: Extraction
Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 7, 2026
This policy explains what information Milk Barf Games ("we", "us") collects when you play Direlands: Extraction or the Direlands: Extraction Demo (together, "the game"), why we collect it, and the choices you have. The game is distributed through Steam; Valve's handling of your Steam account is covered by the Steam Privacy Policy.
If you have any question about this policy or your data, email support@milkbarfgames.com.
The short version
- We collect gameplay statistics and technical logs so we can fix bugs and make the game better. We do not sell your data, show ads, or track you outside the game.
- Your gameplay statistics are tied to a Diagnostics ID, not to your name. It is a one-way scrambled value made from your Steam account, so the same player can be recognised across sessions without us storing your Steam ID with your statistics.
- You can turn this off at any time: Settings → Diagnostics & Gameplay Data → Share diagnostics & gameplay data, and Settings → Crash Reports → Send crash reports.
What we collect
1. Gameplay statistics
When sharing is on, the game sends short records of what happens in play. They include:
- which zones you enter, the Zone Level and difficulty you choose, how long runs last and how they end (extracted, died, ran out of time, abandoned);
- character level, attribute choices, the Super you equip and use, achievements you unlock, Forge upgrades, store purchases made with in-game gold, missions you accept and complete, and which tutorial tips you reach;
- in the demo, whether you reach the demo's level cap and whether you open the store page to wishlist the full game;
- technical context: game version, platform, operating system, processor and graphics-card model, amount of memory, whether you play on a Steam Deck, whether you use a controller or a keyboard and mouse, and frame-rate statistics.
Each record carries your Diagnostics ID and a random ID for the play session. The Diagnostics ID is shown in the game's Settings so you can quote it to us if you need help.
2. Session logs
When sharing is on, the game uploads its technical log file for each play session — at the end of each run, when you quit, or the next time you start the game. Logs record what the game was doing (scenes loaded, errors, network events, performance problems) so we can find the cause of a bug without needing to reproduce it.
Logs are technical, but they can incidentally contain personal information, including your Steam display name and Steam ID, the display names of other players in your party, file paths on your computer (which can include your computer's user name), and hardware details.
3. Crash reports
When Send crash reports is on, the game uploads a report after a crash. A crash report includes the error, recent log lines and technical details. On Windows it may include a memory dump — a snapshot of the game's memory at the moment of the crash, which can contain fragments of whatever the game had loaded, such as your Steam ID or display name.
4. Bug reports you send
If you use Report Bug / Feedback in the game, we receive what you write, a screenshot of the game, your session logs and the technical details listed above. This is only sent when you choose to send it.
5. Multiplayer
Playing with others uses Steam networking and Unity's multiplayer services, which sign the game in anonymously to set up sessions. To help players connect, the game may look up your public IP address using a third-party service (api.ipify.org). Your IP address is also visible to the services that receive any of the data above, as with any internet connection.
How we use it
We use this information only to:
- find and fix bugs, crashes and performance problems;
- understand how the game is played (for example, which zones are popular, where new players struggle, which features go unused) so we can improve it and balance it;
- answer support requests.
We do not use it for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not combine it with information from outside the game.
Who receives it
We use a small number of service providers to store and analyse this information on our behalf:
| Provider | What | Where |
|---|---|---|
| PostHog, Inc. | Gameplay statistics (analytics) | United States |
| Discord Inc. | Session logs, crash reports and bug reports, stored in a private server that only our development team can read | United States |
| Unity Technologies | Anonymous sign-in for multiplayer sessions | United States and elsewhere |
| Valve Corporation (Steam) | Your Steam account, achievements, multiplayer networking | Under Steam's own privacy policy |
We may also disclose information if required by law.
How long we keep it
- Gameplay statistics: up to 12 months.
- Session logs, crash reports and bug reports: as long as they are useful for fixing the problem they describe, and in any case no longer than 12 months.
Your choices and rights
- Stop sharing: turn off Share diagnostics & gameplay data and Send crash reports in Settings. Turning sharing off stops uploads immediately and deletes any statistics still waiting to be sent. Logs and crash reports are still saved on your own computer so you can send them to us yourself if you want to.
- Access or deletion: email support@milkbarfgames.com with your Diagnostics ID (found in Settings) and tell us what you would like. We will delete the statistics and logs we hold for that ID.
- Depending on where you live (for example in the EU, UK or California), you may have additional rights, including the right to object to processing and to complain to your data-protection authority. We rely on our legitimate interest in keeping the game working and improving it to process this information, and you can object at any time by turning sharing off or emailing us.
Children
The game is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the effective date above, and for significant changes we will let players know through the game's Steam news.
